Season 10, Tournament 5: Interview

Max was on Rob’s bag today which was very helpful given that we played at one of the longest and toughest courses of the season – and by that I mean miles of mountain climbing between holes.

What did you enjoy about your round?

Having daddy push my cart up the mountains. I also really liked my playing partners and I almost drove a par 4.

What went well for you?

My drives. I also had some lucky breaks – I kicked out of the trees twice and I finished with a birdie.

Anything out of the ordinary?

Well I had to call a penalty stroke on myself. I was walking on the green to mark my ball and my putter slipped out of my hand and bumped my ball. I had to put the ball back where it was and take a penalty. (Max’s recollection goes as follows: he was walking to the ball swinging his club around like a light saber when it connected the ball and moved it.)

What was a hole that didn’t go as well as you had hoped?

I was chipping for a birdie from a slope on  the edge of the green. I chunked a lob wedge over to land on the hill on the other side then proceeded to do the same thing back again. When I got the ball on the green I putted 30 feet past the hole and ended up 2 putting that.

What do you think you need to do to break 80?

I need to stop making small mistakes like missing short putts. I also need to work on short chips to at least give myself a chance.
