Vacation Golf in South Africa, Plettenberg Bay Country Club : This is fun golf

Plettenberg Bay is a jewel of a town on the Western Cape Coast and a premier tourist destination.  It is elegant and vibey and in the summer months its population swells with trendy young jet-setters attracted to the pristine beaches and surrounding natural wonders.  The rest of the year it is home to largely wealthy retirees who play fair-weather golf on Friday mornings.

This Friday morning the course is empty, the day enveloped in a damp drizzle so characteristic of Western Cape winters.  No Impala in sight but the signs say : Do Not Feed or Approach Vervet Monkeys.  If Bear manages to bruise the rump of one of those off the tee box his driving is in need of serious help!

The course is beautiful, challenging with many dog-legs and teeming with bird-life. It’s also wet and muddy and a chunked 3 wood does not go far in these conditions.  I tell Rob not to be unhappy and he tells me to stop bossing him around like I’m his caddy.  We’re on holiday, this is fun golf …….

Is there such a thing in the world of junior golf?
