Day 1 is done. He said he had fun, which was debatable at times. He lost a ball on probably his best 5 iron ever. Not sure how that happened and we had to return to our original position in the rough under a tree to try the shot again. Max said it is up to the caddy to keep an eye on the ball at all times. Yeah, I know.
We had 3 pars and if we could have kept it on the fairway there would have been more. Max said it is fundamental to low scoring to keep it on the fairway, even if you have to convince your player to take a lesser club. Yeah, I know.
I tried to give advice on the greens. A few 3 putts were directly as a result thereof, or so he said. Sometimes the player has to be right and I’m okay with that.
Actually I was okay with all of it – the tears at times, the temper at times, the best and the worst of times. It is the most frustrating game in the world, and more so when you are the caddy.
On the positive side we played with good people – entertaining, honest and supportive. Rob was encouraging to his fellow player (we were a 2 ball) and even asked, uncharacteristically, if I was enjoying myself.
Yes ! He actually did ! That made my round !
