Season 5, Tournament 6 : Round of Tears

Rob hit a magnificent 38 for 9 holes off the green tees at a Club tournament last night.  I was nowhere near the bag although I did ride around watching the action from the cart path.  He could do no wrong …… found every fairway, drained the putts ……. and I felt confident going into today, so made him a promise to say nothing but just give him clubs as requested.  It was a promise sort of kept.  He struggled, as he has in the early morning to date with the wet grass (yes, it was another 5:30 am wake up) : clubs not going as far as expected, balls not rolling.

He is so annoyed at this point that of course it is my fault (it’s always the caddy’s fault regardless) and apparently he will be caddying on his own and pushing his own bag the next time ………

He finished with a 10 on the last hole.  A particularly brutal hole which, if you don’t set it up with a decent drive (he didn’t), the water carry is a real danger (it was), and your line is compromised by woods on the left and a bunker on the right (he found both and could not get out of the latter).

Us parents proclaimed the round the ‘Round of Tears’, with each boy contributing to the label – one in the beginning thanks to some sand and putting issues, Rob in the middle following a failed tap in and a subsequent 4 putt (having been on the green with a birdie chance), and the last player who joined Rob with a 10 on the last hole thanks too to water and sand.

Oh well.  Maybe I’m really fired.  Will see next week.
